What is Home Staging?

Lynne_Maxfield-ColeHello, Internet Readers!

It’s Lynne Maxfield-Cole here and I’m back to answer more of your great questions.

I heard from a couple that are having difficulty selling their house.  For six months, the house has sat virtually unnoticed.  They were hoping I could offer them advice on what they could do to spruce up the look to improve the appearance and sell ability of their home.

After visiting with them, it was plain to see what the problem was:  They had not properly staged their home!

Dressing homes for success before their debut day on the market has spawned a booming industry that even has a trademarked name.  It’s called “staging,” and if you think of it a little like getting a stage ready for a theater performance or the television crew, you’re not far off!

What is Home Staging?

Home staging is the design process of de-personalizing a private residence prior to putting it up for sale in the real estate marketplace.  This is often achieved by re-arranging, de-cluttering, and improving on certain items.

Additionally, Home Staging is anything that helps a home seller make their home more attractive and appealing to potential buyers.  A Home Stager can bring in furniture, artwork, plants, rugs, and accessories to make your house look its best while on the market.  Some “full service” stagers also offer Contractor-Consulting Services.  This may include choosing paints, tiles, carpets, etc, that would incorporate working directly with the contractor to get the house ready for showing.  The exact definition of what staging encompasses does vary.  Typically, Home Staging provides essential techniques that bring forth all of the positive qualities your home has to offer.  By properly staging your home we put your money and ideas to work efficiently and cost effectively to ensure top dollar on the sale of your home.

Also, don’t forget about the outside of the home.  Plant blooming flowers near the front and back doors and add fresh bark around the yard.  Make sure your shrubbery is well trimmed and the grass is mowed and fertilized.  A buyer gets a first impression of your home by driving by, so the outside look is just as important as the inside.

Selling your home should and can be stress-free by utilizing a Home Staging Consultant to present your home in the best light possible.  Call us or come by Decorating Plus in Auburn to discuss all of your Home Staging concerns.  We are here to help!
